Under 16 Waterpolo Premiers

DVE beat Richmond 7:3 to take out the winter waterpolo competition at MSAC in front of an enthusiastic group of supporters.

Also earlier in the week, DVE featured in the Women’s State League 3 grand-final only narrowly missing out on the premiership to arch rivals Essendon.

To have two teams make grand finals and then have one victorious is a tremendous effort in the winter competition and a fitting end to another great season of waterpolo.

Round 2 Winter Competition

16/u Boys had their first match of the season after a Bye the first week

DVE 11 Defeated MC Bulls 1

Mens SL4 3 lost to Latrobe 4. This is probably the top of the table match

Mens SL6 6 Defeated Ringwood Pirates 4. This grade is looking like the most competitive grade I have seen in a while. It looks like any 2 of the 6 teams could be up for the GF.

Mens SL7 13 Defeated Melb Surge Silver 2. After being beaten in round 1 by Ajax in a competitive game 9-6 the boys look very good in this grade too.

Part Round 3

March Report

12/u Mixed

Our 12/u team played in the “unofficial” Grand Final against the MC Clams. After finishing on top of the “unofficial” ladder we were unable to beat MC but claimed 2nd place out of the 14 12/u teams entered.

14/u Boys

This team was in A grade this year after winning the Silver medal in B grade last year. This year was a lot tougher competition with the 2 top teams with boys turning 15 this year whilst all but 2 of ours turning 13 or 14. We managed to win the Bronze medal beating Monash 7-5. Monash was also full of top age boys. The exciting thing for next year is that we will have pretty much the same team.

This team will also compete in Albury at Easter in the Australian National 14/u club Championships. There are 4 teams entered from Victoria and I am confident that our team will represent the strongest team from Victoria.

Stephanie Jacobson will also compete in the 14/u Girls with the Melbourne Collegians Club as a draft player as both us and our Essendon friends don’t have enough girls to field a side this year.

14/u Girls

5 of our 14/u girls combined with the Essendon girls to play this season and made it into the Grand Final against MC. Unfortunately a couple of important players were not available to play and the girls lost but won the Silver Medal.

Training / Development / Growth

Our two main sessions, Monday and Friday night are seeing in excess of 30 players with many new juniors coming along. Over the last 4 weeks we have put 8 new 12/u players into our squad and another 4 due to start this week.

We are really starting to get a foothold with the word spreading that Water Polo is available in the Northern Suburbs. Victorian Water Polo are extremely please with what we have achieved so far. Our challenges are needing more pool space / time and more coaches to help out.

Our players are very pleased to say the least that there is no longer an entry fee to Watermarc and in some ways has added to the Monday night training numbers. More numbers means we can collect more money to help pay for lane hire which we generally don’t cover.

In trying to develop polo and adding some Sunday sessions, we are pleased that Council have seen that we have gone from nothing to 80+ registered players and have now provided some support in our latest agreement with them and Watermarc.

When you look at our achievements in just 5 years it’s pretty impressive and it is great that Council have recognized this. (See below)

We are the only suburban club in Melbourne who has done this and Banyule together with Watermarc are the only Council who are supporting Water Polo in this way in Victoria

March 2, 2017

For those of you particularly the 14/u boys who have been looking forward to more training, we are unable to do this Saturday and Sunday for a variety of reasons

Winter Competition:

Water Polo Victoria have asked for team entries for Winter.  I will send out draft early next week and I will need to know ASAP if your are NOT wanting to play otherwise I will assume you are in .

This Winter Competition will be played as a Fast Fives.  I will confirm all details latter but something different which I am not in favour of and once again had no knowledge of until the call for teams.  Any way looks like fun.  Here are some of the details:

1.    4 Field players and the Goal Keeper at any one time
2.    Unlimited substitutions during the game
3.    2 x10 min halves with possibly 2 games per night
4.    No exclusion period you simply go to the box or exclusion point and can come straight back in…….or probably sub out for the moment!
5.    After a goal the game restarts immediately with the goalie passing the ball out.

WPV are still negotiating with MSAC regarding playing indoors or outdoors.  Last I heard it was a definite indoors but now it seems that may be up in the air.  If it is indoors start time looks like 7.30pm.  If out doors start time looks like 6.30pm

Rhyming…………us talented water polo players

TRAINING -At the moment:

Monday 7.30ish to 9.00. Last week at our first session 24 players including welcome back to Gido and Sonja.

Girls, get to training! I have been telling Sonja just how good you girls are. She is ready to take up Goal keeping duties in the wake of Georgina’s retirement

Friday Initially 12/u 4.30 to 5.30 16/u 5.00ish to 6.30

I haven’t scheduled any Sundays as yet.

For those of you who are on our committee and for those of you who would like to get involved

There is stuff we need to organize and decide

A quick wrap up of our first Sunday matches.

12/u had an 11-1 win over Nunawading with the best team match of the season. Some great passing and awareness and preparedness to play the team game. A couple of stand out highlights was Jacob Amsing scoring his first ever goal….and an excellent team goal at that..cross pass from Billie to Steph who cross-passed onto Jacobs’s hand who didn’t drop it and put it straight into the net. Aiden Jacobson’s best game ever and Zoe who was everywhere. If she didn’t have the ball…she went and got it.

14/u Boys had a very impressive 12-2 win over MC. With Koby in goals as Pacey was out injured and a couple of others away, this looked like a tough game. Such is the ability of this team who played excellent team polo. Highlight was Christian scoring 5 or 6….not sure I think even he lost count.

14/u girls Haley, Cameron, Stephanie, Macey and Billie play with Essendon and most certainly are the stronger of the team. Although we won in via a walkover the girls played a scratch match. Apart from our girls playing really well, Macey was outstanding in goals.

Great to have 6 players already committed to this very competitive team.

I still need to hear from the other 6 so we can confirm this team. Come on guys get back and have a great experience with the latest DVE Polo Team!!!!

January 25, 2017

Hi all,

Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.

Just a reminder that training for seniors and some juniors starts back this Monday 7.30 for swim and 8.00 for training.

In particular I want to see all the Boys 14/u National team at both sessions each week.

Juniors start Friday Feb 3 with games starting againg Feb 5 and no I havn’t received any fixtures yet…….. If you have been following the debarcle that has been Victorias organization or non- organization of our Victorian Seals National Polo teams, then you will see that they are struggling!

For Juniors you will receive an invoice shortly for match fees, some for bathers and some for registration.

I would normally do this at the start of the season but once again Victorian Water Polo couldn’t tell me how many matches we would play so hence I was unable to work out what to charge.

We currently have 70 registered Polo players with many new registrations coming shortly. Heading towards 100 registered polo players is a great result for such a new club.

Congrats again to our 16/u Boys on their Premiership first time in and to SL4 once again come from know where to win the Summer Premiership.

Our 12/u Kids are undefeated and are heading towards back to back “:unofficial” Premiers and our 14/u boys are sitting 3rd in A grade. And our 14/u girls are also sitting 3rd on the ladder.
